NAC 2010: 65th Dutch Astronomy Conference

May 19th - 21st, 2010

The 65th annual meeting of the Nederlandse Astronomenclub is organized by the Department of Astrophysics of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Participation is possible for members of the Dutch Astronomy Club and its sister organizations, as well as for qualified others with interests in astronomy and space research, such as students who have started their research, (science) journalists, etc. Astronomical institutes are expected to have a representation of students in reasonable portion to their representation of staff, and to cover the (reduced) costs of the students. Participants who can not get reimbursed otherwise, such as astronomers seeking employment but also science journalists, can request support via a NAC grant.

The NAC will attribute grants for conference participation at a reduced prize. If you want to apply for a grant please write before April 1st, 2010 to the NAC secretariat: Joeri van Leeuwen, email: leeuwen@astron.nl.

Registration

Please register at the INDICO server .

The deadline for registration and payment is May 1st, 2010. Payment of the appropriate amount should be made to ING bank account # 523 60 24. Recipient name: “NAC 2010 Sterrenkunde” in Nijmegen.

You can register with a reduced fee before April 1st, 2010. Please make sure the conference fee is transferred before April 1st to the conference bank account. After May 1st, an additional 50.- EUR will be charged to compensate for extra costs and the availability of rooms cannot be guaranteed.

Abstracts

Please submit abstracts at the INDICO server . Deadline April 18th, 2010.

Abstracts for posters to be presented at the conference can still be submitted after the deadline but they will not appear in the program booklet.

Posters will be in the format A0.

Conference venue

Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen-Cuijk, Raamweg 10, 5431 NH Cuijk
The hotel is located alongside of highway A73, south of Nijmegen. Parking is provided free of charge. Wireless internet is available in the hotel rooms. A gym/fitness room is present in the hotel (no additional cost).

By public transport:

Use 9292 OV (general public transport planning) or NS (train only) to plan your trip to destination: train station Cuijk. Unless you come from the south, you will have to change trains on Nijmegen Central Station. From there, a train will depart to station Cuijk every 15 minutes.

A shuttle bus will be driving back and forth between train station Cuijk and the hotel. Wednesday morning between 9.30-12.30 (registration is between 10.00 and 12.00).

By car:

Use ANWB Routeplanner to the destination address. Postcode is the zip code (5431 NH). Straatnaam is the street (Raamweg, not 'Raamweg Linden' which may also be offered as an option). Nr is 10. Plaatsnaam is the city (Cuijk).

Social event

Thursday afternoon several activities will be organized:

- A self-guided tour of Cuijk (on foot, a map and information will be provided)
- A visit to Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen (by bus)
- A visit to the Africa Museum near Nijmegen (by bus)
- Sporting activities (volleyball, frisbee) at the hotel

Please indicate your preferred activity during the online registration. Students should bring their college cards in case of a museum visit.
