Spectroscopic identification of First UV-excess catalog available (Verbeek et al. 2012b)
First UV-excess catalog now available (Verbeek et al. 2012a)

The UVEX survey is imaging the Northern Galactic Plane (|b|<5°,   ) in the optical RGO U, Sloan g and r, and the narrowband He I 5875 filters down to g=21, to select UV-excess sources: white dwarfs and white dwarf binaries, subdwarf B star/binaries, metal deficient stars, quasars behind the Galactic  Plane. The strategy behind UVEX is nicely illustrated above in the right picture: foreground, intrinsically low-luminosity stellar remnants and binaries stand out like a sore thumb against the reddened background main-sequence population of stars. UVEX is the complement to the redder IPHAS survey Sloan r, i, and H-alpha. UVEX also provides a second epoch r-band for a deep high precision proper motion survey of the Galactic Plane. The southern complement to UVEX and IPHAS will be the VPHAS+ survey, started on the ESO-VST in 2011.  The UVEX survey is described in Groot et al., 2009
