This page explains how you can set up the camera and computer in the 35cm-dome for live-streaming the view through the 35-cm SCT.

IN ADVANCE: Make sure you have a YouTube-account for which live streaming is enabled. You can request this feature from within your own account: open the YouTube home page and log in. When you go to your account overview (which shows up as the top-right round button in your youtube homepage when you are logged in) and clock on 'creator studio'. In the overview you then see, the menu on the left has a 'live streaming' option that you can use to set up a request to be able to generate livestreams from your account. Note that it takes 24 hours before YouTube can enable livestreaming for you! This only needs to be set up once.

Once you have the option to set up a livestream from youtube, go to the domes and pick up the QHY CMOS camera from the tall grey cupboard between the domes: you need the keys with the yellow label from the 'main' domes keycase, which is just behind the keycard-activated door before you head up the spiral staircase. With the camera, go into the 35-cm dome.

Boot up the PC in the dome, and wait until it is fully booted and ready to be used. Activate the telescope mount using the switch on the mount itself and connect the camera to the focal plane. Then, connect the camera to one of the light-grey USB cables hanging from the mount. You will hear a 'connecting' sound from the PC when you have used the correct cable. If not, try the other USB cable.

On the PC, start the 'EZPlanetary' software from the Start menu. In the EZPlanetary main view, check that the camera is connected and recognized by using the relevant drop-down menu, it should be listed there. Use the 'Tools' drop-down menu to activate the 'live broadcast' function. You will be able to change the camera settings from the EZPlanetary main view, also during the livestream, using the sliders in the top left of the window controlling the gain, the exposure time per frame and the gamma correction factor.

Set up the 35-cm telescope so it is looking at something interesting. Make sure that focus and the video settings are correct, you can check the live camera image quality in the EZPlanetary main window.

Now, with the camera working and having made its video stream available, and the telescope ready, you can start a webcast from the PC by either going to http://www.youtube.com/webcam to test the livestream, or by going to your YouTube creator studio overview and setting up a planned livestream event. When setting up the livestream on YouTube, simply select the QHY (WDM) camera as the video source on the 'setup' page you will get (you may have to click on the 'advanced settings' button for this to be visible). Test the livestream by logging into youtube on your own laptop or smartphone on the spot, going to your channel overview and clicking on the livestream that should appear there. Of course, when you are testing you can keep the livestream private by not having it listed. If it is to be public, make sure that the right link is distributed to the relevant audience on time.

That's all, folks!
